Winter Storm Response
Dear HC MUD 24 Residents,
Since the freeze, we are averaging 3,200 more tons per week throughout the Houston region. This averages out to an extra load or more per residential route per day.
This has caused a few obstacles for WCA/GFL:
- Our crews are not able to work as quickly as they normally do.
- This causes longer than normal wait times at the landfill and recycling centers.
- Our drivers cannot be behind the wheel more than eleven hours per day.
We understand that everyone is trying to clean up their yards from the freeze, and now Spring is here! As a temporary measure, please limit the number of bags to 4 that are placed out on Mondays for the next few weeks. This would be very helpful and appreciated. We understand the frustration and want to get everything serviced as much as you do. Keep in mind this is an industry problem, not just for WCA/GFL.
Please review the pick-up guidelines for your district.
Carts must be placed at the curbside by 7:00 A.M. every Monday and Thursday.
MONDAYS: Blue cart, yard waste, bulk items.
Household waste must be contained in the ninety-five-gallon blue cart provided by WCA. *If items are flowing over the cart and the lid is not able to close, the cart may not be serviced by the automated truck.
Tree and yard waste must be in containers or in bags not exceeding forty gallon or forty pounds. Tree, shrubs, & brush trimmings must be cut in lengths not to exceed four feet & not greater than three inches in diameter, securely tied in bundles. *Tree/shrub trimmings cannot be sticking out of the blue bins and will not be serviced by the automated trucks.
Bulk items must be placed at the curbside by 7:00 A.M. on Mondays only.
The following are not acceptable items for bulk or heavy trash:
- Construction Debris, Sheetrock, Drywall, Insulation, Stone, Tile, Concrete, Dirt
- Metal items (includes recliners or sofa sleepers) Propane Tanks
- Wood (includes wood Fencing)
THURSDAYS: Blue cart and Recycle cart only.
Household recycling must be contained in the sixty-five-gallon cart provided by WCA. Anything outside of the cart will not be picked up. Please do not place recycled items in plastic bags, this could cause the items to be pulled and sent to the landfill. Please do not place household waste in the recycle carts, this will not be picked up.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact customer service at [email protected] or 281-368-8397.
